Professional Assistance on Rule of Law, Public Policy and Compliance

Within the international human rights framework, fundamental standards and principles have emerged. In turn, public and private actors must take into account and respond accordingly to these standards in their daily business and operational pursuits. IHR LEGAL assists these entities by providing professional assistance and counseling in all aspects concerning Rule of Law, Public Policy and Compliance, bearing in mind international evolving human rights standards.
We offer States services which assist in fostering respect for human rights by companies and aim to achieve coherence in public policies.

To achieve the foregoing, we provide assistance:

● Drafting legislation for national plans on business and human rights;
● Conduct activities aimed to identify human rights risks in specific business ventures;
● Raise awareness of business and human rights issues within government ministries, departments and agencies through workshops and training, among others; and
● Plan and implement consultations with multi-level stakeholders, including the affected communities.

Additionally, we guide companies to “know and show” that they do not infringe on human rights through their operations or business relationships.

We provide advice on:

● Development of internal human rights policies;
● Implementing human rights impact assessments and due diligence processes;
● Development of mechanisms for stakeholders engagement;
● Implementation of human rights compliance mechanisms; and
● Development of grievance and redress mechanisms.

Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights:

Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework

11. Business enterprises should respect human rights. This means that they should avoid infringing on the human rights of others and should address adverse human rights impacts with which they are involved.
