Paulo Abrão

Paulo Abrão is a Visiting Scholar at Brown University and served as the executive secretary of both the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) based in Washington D.C., and the MERCOSUR Institute of Public Policies on Human Rights (IPPDH) in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Moreover, Paulo Abrão held the following renowned positions: National Secretary of Justice, President of the National Committee for Refugees, Presidente of the Amnesty Commission and President of the National Committee against Human Trafficking in Brazil. Paulo Abrão is spearheaded international cooperation projects in conjunction with various U.N. entities, including the UNDP, UNESCO, UNODC, UNHCR, IOM and OHCHR. Paulo Abrão has extensive experience in providing advice and technical cooperation in the field of human rights. He is affiliated with various academic organizations in the United States, Mexico, Brazil and Spain, as well as advises non-governmental organizations. Paulo Abrão is the author of numerous books and articles on human rights and is frequently consulted by the media for his insight. He holds a law degree (Brazil, 1997), a postgraduate degree from the University of Chile, a master’s degree in Public Law (2000) and a PhD in Law from the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro (2010). Paulo Abrão is an international consultant and a member of the Brazilian Bar Association. * He is currently based between Brazil and Providence/USA and is the co-director Advocacy, Compliance, and Technical Cooperation in Human Rights at IHR LEGAL
